OOH operators in the city fear the city transit infra expansion will instead undermine the existing roadside formats
In the wake of the smart city planning that is underway, urban infrastructure projects coming up across the country, various advertising opportunities are opening up. However, the smart city project in Ahmedabad has not created any significant OOH avenues. Yatindra Naik, Manager of E-Governance who looks after the smart city project under Rakesh Shankar, Deputy Municipal Commissioner [Smart city, Heritage , E-Governance, Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS), Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited (AJL), RTI and Public Grievance Redressal, CM Swagat, Sankalp Siddhi], told Media4Growth that currently there is no provision for advertising opportunities in the policy. “No concrete decisions are made yet and there are no tenders in the pipeline that we know of,” said Yatindra.
The Metro rail network is also set to begin operations in the city but somehow the media owners don’t seem to be overly optimistic of any advertising windfall from such projects.
To the contrary, they feel the transit infrastructure will undermine the existing outdoor sites.
