Vodafone Idea's green Ganesh initiative for Punekars

Vodafone Idea Ltd. finds a way to let Punekars celebrate Ganesh Utsav, without compromising on the environment. For the third consecutive year, Vodafone Idea offers Eco-Ponds, an environment friendly solution to bid farewell to Lord Ganesh.

Stationed at 4 locations, namely, Aundh Road, Kharadi, Wakdewadi, and NIBM Road, the Vodafone Eco-Ponds is an initiative by Vodafone Idea in partnership with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and National Chemical Laboratory (NCL). The Eco-Ponds will be placed at the front of Vodafone stores in these locations. Alongside this, 2 mobile Eco-Ponds will assist residents of Housing societies as well.

Commenting on the environment-friendly initiative, Rajendra Chourasia, Business Head – Maharashtra & Goa, Vodafone Idea Limited said, “Ganeshotsav is one of the most celebrated festivals in Pune. As much as we enjoy celebrating the festival, we are aware of the impact the immersion of idols leaves on the environment. We are extremely happy to support PMC and NCL for the third consecutive year with our ‘Vodafone Eco-Ponds’ initiative to enable Punekars to give an environment-friendly farewell to their beloved Ganpati Bappa.

The Vodafone Eco-Ponds will be available from 3rd September and to make the process even more convenient, a helpline number will help the devotees locate the Eco-Pond nearest to their location.

Alongside saving the aquatic ecosystem, the concept has helped recycle 34 tonnes of PoP (Plaster of Paris) and generated 2.7 lakh litres of fertiliser in the last two years. This resource was subsequently distributed to farmers in Maharashtra for their fields.
