Political parties to focus on OOH media for Bihar Assembly election

By Bhawana Anand - September 16, 2020

The fresh guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India have put many restrictions on activities conducted for party promotions; boosting OOH medium to pick up post-lockdown

For carrying out Bihar Assembly election amid the Covid19 pandemic, the fresh guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) seems beneficial for the OOH industry by becoming the primary mode of communication for party promotions.

After considering suggestions from political parties and chief electoral officers of states and union territories, the poll watchdog has given instructions that only groups of up to five people are allowed to campaign door-to-door, and roadshows must be restricted to five vehicles. Hence, the political parties are undertaking aggressive OOH campaigning to win the confidence of people in Bihar.

Based in northern state of Bihar, an Indian political party Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) has already kick-started massive party promotions in the rural areas where the spread of Covid19 is under control. Also, the city campaign is expected to begin in couple of days as the outdoor planning is underway. To create a larger than life picture, the party is primarily relying on the large size media such as hoardings. Moreover, the wall warp format has been reportedly put in great use for branding this year.

On the other side, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) & Janta Dal (United) (JDU), fighting in alliance, are using mobile vans for election promotions in Bihar, similar to Maharashtra and Haryana elections. These branded mobile vans send audio and visual recorded messages with the ability to cover larger area.

Expected to roll out in next few days, the political campaigns are expected to run for a month.
