By The People: What Catches The Eye In The Outdoor

The Outdoor Asia team went outdoors in Mumbai and Kolkata to gather people's views and perceptions about outdoor advertising.

As people on the move or those on the street form a chunk of the target audience for OOH advertising brands, it was interesting to get the consumer perspective. Read on to gauge the People's Voice:

MUMBAI

Dimple Desai, Client Service Executive, Metigon

"When Kareena Kapoor came up with Sony Vaio laptop it was pretty visible and made such an impact on me that I actually ended up buying a pink colour laptop for myself. So I guess, mainly, it's the digital world with mobile phones are working a lot. But I must say at any given time anything that pulls the most are the Amul hoardings - that tiny girl. The ads are also good and Amul is the best till now. For years it has worked and it still works and people still turn around and see. I think Amul is the best hoarding so far.”

"Magnum attracted me the most because Kareena Kapoor is the role model for me and the way she is eating Magnum is very tempting. It makes me go and buy Magnum every time I see a hoarding or a bus-shelter.  This is the recent hoarding that has attracted me the most.”

"For me, at any given time, two types of hoardings attract me the most - real estate and jewellery. And the one I totally adore currently is that of Waman Hari Pethe because of the kind of jewellery they display on their haordings.”

"The hoarding which I remember till date and made an impact on me was that of Jaguar cars. This hoarding was near a mall in Ghatkopar and I still remember it because the entire hoarding as well as the car was of of golden colour. It was few months back but it really made an impact on me because firstly, it was Jaguar and secondly, everything about the hoarding was golden.”

"I have been a loyal Vodafone customer since last ten years and so when they came up with their Vodafone RED campaign, I really liked it. The red colour all over the hoardings and bus-shelters had a great impact on me and I think, it is one of the best outdoor activities done so far by any brand. The red colour looked very attractive.”    


KOLKATA

"The hoarding which I can remember just now was that of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz car which was really impressive and caught my eyes. The billboard was near the Elgin Road and Lansdowne crossing.  The way the creative was done, it was very catchy and the product image came out nicely. It made an impact on me.”

"I do sometimes notice the outdoor advertisements but will not be able to exactly remember what product or service was showcased.  Samsung from the CDIT vertical and MTS from telecommunication industry are two brands which I can name at the moment.”

"The new P.C. Chandra Jewellers outdoor campaign grabbed my attention because of their new brand ambassador who is the Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha. She is looking very beautiful and attractive in the advertisement. Previously there was a different model and now that they have rolled out a new campaign with a more prominent face. Naturally it grabbed my attention. But at the same time there is great visual pollution in the city and this is the reason why more brand names are not coming to my mind. They are getting lost in the clutter.”

"Bollywood Actress Priyanka Chopra in the Cannon campaign is looking stunning and in fact among friends we were also discussing what she is wearing for the campaign. Also, I have noticed Pantaloons outdoor campaign which I suppose is a regular one throughout the year.”

"I have noticed that these days a lot of the banking and financial companies are highly visible in the outdoor. I can remember the hoarding of Punjab National Bank right now and lot many other brands are also present out there.”
