New vistas are opening up for the Indian OOH industry as the Central government directs sharp attention on the expansion and modernisation of the country’s infrastructure including mass transportation networks. Indian Railways is a prime mover in this direction.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has envisioned a grand plan for modernisation of the country’s rail network and services. And, to augment the Railways’ revenues, Minister Prabhu has set a goal of raising around Rs 9,000 crore through advertising and commercial contracts that will be given out to competent private players.

This year’s Outdoor Advertising Convention (OAC), to be held at Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel in Mumbai during July 24-25, provides an opportune occasion for the captains of Indian OOH industry to get a first-hand account of Minister Prabhu’s vision of promoting innovative advertising on Railway media and other assets.

Minister Prabhu will inaugurate OAC 2015 on July 24 and deliver the keynote address.

A chartered accountant by profession, Prabhu has been repeatedly elected to Parliament since 1996. At various times during the Premiership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee he was the Industry Minister, Minister of Environment and Forests, and Minister of Fertilizers & Chemicals, Power, Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises. He is credited with championing and enacting the Electricity Act of 2003.

As the current Railway Minister, Prabhu is setting new performance benchmarks for Indian Railways, creating a swathe of opportunities for public-private partnerships.
