Brittany Ferries, a leader in European maritime transportation, is setting new standards in passenger experience by implementing an innovative digital signage strategy across three of its flagship vessels: Galicia, Salamanca, and Santoña. The French shipping company has partnered with DENEVA to enhance onboard services, streamline internal processes, and provide a personalized, engaging experience for passengers.

Addressing infrastructure challenges at sea
One of the main challenges faced during the project was ensuring the reliability of digital signage in the maritime environment, where connectivity can often be intermittent or unavailable. DENEVA’s robust technical infrastructure and seamless integration with the ships’ systems have ensured continuous operation and the ability to provide real-time, updated information to passengers, even in areas with no connectivity. The platform’s custom developments have allowed Brittany Ferries to enhance its onboard passenger services while simplifying operational management, leading to improved efficiency and quicker content updates.

Enhancing the passenger experience
As a result of this strategic collaboration, more than 200 players have been installed in an ambitious phased implementation project across three of the company’s ferries. This includes a combination of conventional signage, featuring corporate or entertainment information and menu boards, primarily based on Windows and LG’s WebOS operating systems, and interactive displays by ELO Touch, enabling greater passenger interaction and personalized services.
The InfoKiosk solution, specifically designed for Brittany Ferries, has become an essential component of onboard Digital Signage. It provides passengers with real-time key travel information, such as itineraries, arrival schedules, and the ship’s current position. This interactive system facilitates onboard activity planning and delivers updated data on destination weather, local transfers, and transportation schedules. Additionally, it offers access to a digital magazine with articles about the destinations visited and available activities.
Furthermore, InfoKiosk allows passengers to explore the onboard boutique catalog, featuring a wide selection of products, including fashion, cosmetics, souvenirs, and exclusive regional items. The catalog is centrally managed through DENEVA’s product portal, ensuring up-to-date information on availability, prices, and descriptions. This interactive functionality fosters a personalized and convenient shopping experience during the journey.
Another standout tool is Accommodation Object, which provides detailed information about cabins, including real-time rates and availability. Passengers can easily make reservations, tailoring their choices to their needs and preferences. All InfoKiosk content is available in a multilingual format, ensuring an accessible and inclusive experience for travelers of different nationalities and languages.
A decentralized approach to content distribution
DENEVA’s decentralized architecture synchronizes a central server with local servers on each ship, ensuring content availability even in the absence of connectivity. This solution enables autonomous operation and provides the crew with tools such as deneva.Control, which simplifies content management via mobile devices, allowing for real-time specific updates and adaptations based on the onboard environment.
Among its standout applications, deneva.Control allows the broadcasting of safety videos, adjusting screen brightness and volume, and displaying relevant content based on the passenger’s location, enhancing the experience while maintaining safety standards.
Commitment to sustainability and operational excellence
In line with their sustainability efforts, Brittany Ferries and DENEVA have focused on using low-energy technologies and hardware for the digital signage installations, reducing the environmental impact. The collaboration also includes comprehensive service desk support to ensure the smooth operation of the system, including troubleshooting, personalized advice, and training for the Brittany Ferries team.
