Netflix asserts leadership via OOH in Hollywood
The company will reportedly soon own up to 35 billboard displays on roughly two dozen structures along West Hollywood’s famed Sunset Strip
Streaming video pioneer Netflix Inc is investing in billboards to gain an edge in the battle for online viewers and top-notch talent. The company will reportedly soon own up to 35 billboard displays on roughly two dozen structures along West Hollywood’s famed Sunset Strip.
It was reported earlier that Netflix had offered $300-million in April to acquire Los Angeles-based Regency Outdoor Advertising, Reuters. Netflix subsequently went in for half of Regency’s assets for $150-million, in a deal expected to close this month. It is also considering acquiring other Regency billboards in Hollywood, such as near the Dolby Theatre, home of the Academy Awards.
The media on the Sunset Strip is seen daily by actors, writers and directors. The company plans to release about 700 original TV series, movies and other programming this year.
