UPSRTC gears up to promote media opportunities in a big way

By Rajiv Raghunath - April 25, 2017

The Corporation is planning to provide space for hoardings, unipoles, LCD screens, gantries at the bus stations and bus panels on 6,500 buses. On the anvil is also the plan to upgrade 44 important bus stations.

In keeping with the increasing advertising interest in transit media, several state road transport corporations are seen to be upgrading their media to enhance their non-fare tariff revenue earnings. U.P. State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has taken a strident step in this direction.

UPSRTC, one of the biggest transport corporations in north India with a fleet of 11,800 buses carrying some 56 crore passengers annually with an annual turnover of Rs 3,850 crore, is planning to provide space for hoardings, unipoles, LCD screens, gantries at the bus stations and bus panels on 6,500 buses. UPSRTC plans to upgrade 44 important bus stations.

UPSRTC will be floating an e-tender soon inviting bids for the media rights. The Corporation has 242 bus stations across the state, with each station on an average seeing movement of some 15 lakh passengers. There are also many people who visit the bus stations to see off their friends and relatives, and so they are also part of the captive audience that can be targeted by advertising brands, states a UPSRTC note that was despatched recently.
The Corporation operates over 700 high-end buses like Volvo service, Janrath and Shatabdi air- conditioned bus service
