Volume close to 25-year average

Indian Railways passenger volume has gone up from 539.93 million in August 2022 to 569.13 million in July 2023, as per data released by CEIC. There is also a marginal increase from 563.12 million recorded in June 2023, although the month of May 2023 had seen a high of 589.27 million – the highest in a 12-month period.

Pertinent to note that the Railway Passenger Originating data is updated monthly, averaging 562.80 million from April 1998 to July 2023, with 304 observations, the data reached an all-time high of 858.03 million way back in June 2014.

The data includes traffic data of suburban and non suburban passenger movement including Metro passengers.

Meanwhile, Government has laid out an ambitious plan for redevelopment of 508 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme that will also have a positive bearing on passenger traffic growth in the coming years.

These factors serve as useful markers for OOH investment plans that companies have drawn down.
