Kannur airport likely to stoke keen OOH interest
The airport is expected to serve over 1 million passengers annually and that number will likely increase five-fold by 2025
With the first flight from the Kannur International Airport taking off on December 9 morning, connecting the coastal city with Abu Dhabi, advertising interest at this airport is expected to go up. Some months ago, the concerned authority had floated a tender inviting bids for the sole ad rights at the airport, which was then in the completion stage. But the response from the OOH industry then was, at best, lukewarm.
Now that the airport has become operational, and with the announcement of domestic flights connecting Kannur with cities like Bengaluru, Chennai and others, as well as international airlines expressing interest in operating flights to and from the Kannur airport, the passenger traffic there is expected to go up significantly, which might stoke keener interest among the OOH industry in picking sole rights there.
