Srishti bags exclusive 7-year ad rights for Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair
The airport is the veritable gateway to expanding tourism and other businesses in the archipelago
Leading media owning firm Srishti which commands a strong and notable presence in the transit media business segment, and a forerunner in DOOH advertising, has taken a strident step in the airport media business by winning an exclusive 7-year advertising rights for the state-of-the-art Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The OOH major won the contract in a forward auction process conducted by the Airport Authority of India (AAI).
The significance of this media contract win particularly stems from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that “Andaman is becoming a living and breathing example of the
maha mantra of development and heritage going hand in hand”, a statement that he made while inaugurating the new Rs 710-crore integrated terminal building at Port Blair’s Veer Savarkar International Airport in July 2023.
Prime Minister Modi said he expects tourism in the archipelago to increase “manifold” in the coming years. Reports suggest that the tourist footfall in the islands has doubled since 2014. The Veer Savarkar International Airport will serve as the veritable gateway to domestic and international tourists — in the near future – as more and more people seek to explore the exotic locales of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and experience the tourist attractions including adventure sports. In time, the airport will also gain connectivity with the south-east Asian region, that in turn would also boost arrivals for wedding functions, conferences, etc. Currently, the airport has domestic airline traffic.
The new 40,837 sq. m. terminal at the airport has the capacity to handle about 50 lakh passengers annually and the airport can now park 10 planes at a time.
Speaking about the contract win, S Kumar, Managing Director, Srishti Group told Media4Growth: “The exclusive ad rights that we have won for the Veer Savarkar International Airport is akin to a jewel in our transit media crown. Andaman & Nicobar Islands are assuming unprecedented importance in the context of Indian tourism, and we are delighted to have gained a role in this endeavour even as we will go great lengths to bring the top brands to showcase their offerings at the airport.”
Pertinent to note that Srishti holds the sole ad rights at Agatti airport in Lakshadweep, apart from airports at Mysuru, Hubli-Dharwad, and Belgaum.
Even as the spotlight shines bright on Andaman & Nicobar Islands for infrastructure development and tourist promotion, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Chief Secretary Keshav Chandra was quoted by mainstream media as saying this Indian Union territory is an abode of great beaches, adventure & fun opportunities and tourism facilities. He observed that the archipelago holds a distinct advantage over other island destinations in the Indian Ocean Region.
It may also be noted that the architectural design of the airport terminal resembles a shell-shaped structure, depicting the sea and islands. The terminal building has a number of sustainability features like a double-insulated roofing system to reduce heat gain, skylights to provide maximum inlet of sunlight during the day to reduce artificial light usage inside the building, LED lighting and low heat gain glazing, among others.
