Amanda Dorenberg on resilience, leadership, and staying true to yourself
As part of Media4Growth’s Women’s Month series, we bring you insights from Amanda Dorenberg, CEO of Artshouse Media Group, a trailblazer in the OOH industry.
Leadership is often defined by strength and strategy, but for Amanda Dorenberg, it’s also deeply rooted in resilience and compassion. As the CEO of Artshouse Media Group, Amanda has shared her powerful insights into what it means to lead authentically in the OOH industry. Her journey, shaped by early independence and determination, serves as a testament to the unique strength women bring to leadership. From building trust to leading with transparency, Amanda’s perspective offers valuable lessons for leaders and aspiring professionals alike.
Resilience and compassion: strengths of a female perspective
Amanda’s journey has been shaped by resilience. Having been on her own since the age of 16, she developed a strong sense of independence and adaptability early in life. These qualities became the foundation of her approach to business.
“I think there have been many situations in which my perspective and my journey in life have brought a unique strength in business,” Amanda shares. “What I’ve learned from this personal experience is that I do not have to do this alone. When you surround yourself with like-minded people who have passion, drive, and a desire to learn and grow, you can achieve great things together.”
Amanda’s journey also taught her the importance of trust and compassion in leadership. By learning to let go and trusting her team, she has cultivated a collaborative environment where people feel empowered to contribute and grow. This compassionate approach, rooted in her own experiences, is something Amanda hopes to inspire in others.
Redefining success over time
For Amanda, success has always been about more than titles or financial milestones. Early in her career, it was simply about getting a chance to share her voice and perspective. However, as she grew in her career, her definition of success evolved.
“Success to me today is about humility, gratitude, and graciousness,” Amanda explains. “It’s about mentoring the younger generation of talent who may feel the same way I did when I was their age.”
Amanda takes pride in giving back and supporting others on their journey, helping them discover their potential and achieve their dreams. She finds fulfillment not in personal accolades but in the impact she makes by guiding and mentoring the next generation.
Leading with vulnerability and transparency
Amanda believes vulnerability is a powerful leadership tool, especially for women in executive roles. Too often, women feel pressured to have all the answers or prove their worth in environments where they may already feel outnumbered.
“What I’ve learned and what I’ve found great pleasure and success in is being completely transparent and vulnerable to those I work with,” she says. “It’s ok to not know everything. In fact, it’s inspiring to others when we are humble enough to admit we do not have all the answers.”
Amanda leads with truth and transparency, believing that this approach fosters trust and strengthens teams. Her leadership style is built on honesty, which encourages collaboration and builds stronger, more cohesive relationships within her organization.
Advice for the next generation of women in OOH
Amanda’s advice for women stepping into the industry is simple yet powerful:
“Stay true to yourself and do not allow anyone to influence you to compromise who you are and what your values are.”
She believes that success is grounded in authenticity, and staying true to one’s core beliefs is the key to navigating challenges and achieving long-term fulfillment.
