Chennai media owners back GHMC move to remove illegal sites

The recent orders issued by The Greater Chennai Municipal Corporation to remove illegal hoardings in the city is finding support support from the media owner fraternity. The media owners view this step as key to ushering in fair business practices, regulation of business, and declutter of the city landscape. It was cited that illegal sites were cluttering the city landscape and the media formats are not standardised. Besides, there are various sites put up illegally on private buildings.

The association of media owners is extending all support to the civic body to further the move to regulate the business.

As per the municipal corporation records, there are 108 licensed sites in the city and apart from them, the sites installed against orders will be pulled down by the civic authority whether it is a wall mounted or is a digital board.

The corporation clearly states any site erected in the city must have a proper license number of hoarding, size of hoarding and the period of validity of the license.
