Chennai likely to have billboards back on streets in near future
However, there is still some distance to go with regard to the bylaws to be drafted for the format and tendering processes to be firmed up
Moves are apparently afoot to bring outdoor advertising back on the streets of Chennai. However, referring to reports that a legislation to this effect has been passed in the Tamil Nadu Assembly by which the Greater Chennai Corporation will be releasing tenders inviting bids for the outdoor assets, A Umapathy, Deputy Director / Public Relation Officer, Greater Chennai Corporation told Media4Growth that the whole process will take a long time coming.
The state government will have to draft the bylaws with regards to the advertising formats after which the corporation will be notified to announce the tenders.
As per the reports, the new proposed law has some amendments with regard to issuing permissions. The commissioner will permit the sites installation after an inspection and on payment of the prescribed license fee and fulfilling the conditions.
