BBMP Signage Policy 2018 approved for shop & other signages

Approved by the State Government, the policy will be implemented in next 90 days & State Rules 2019 to be announced shortly

The long-pending Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Outdoor Signage & Public Messaging ByLaws 2018 has been approved by the State Government and will be brought into effect in next 90 days within the BBMP jurisdiction. These by-laws will be applicable on shop and other signage branding. The by-laws impinge on formats like awning, banner sign, building wrap sign, bus shelter, canopy sign, direction board, electronic display (LCD, LED, Neon), FOB, Gantry and various others. Also, it allows for shop front signage, either illuminated or non-illuminated display in front of the commercial and business activity carried in the vicinity.

The bylaws contain the eco-friendly condition that the signage material used has to be certified by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board as biodegradable.

Though BBMP Palike Outdoor Signage & Public Messaging By-Laws 2018 does not cover the hoardings displays, the large format will be covered once the Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Advertisement Rules 2019 comes into force. Currently, the scrutiny committee -- formed by the state government -- is taking into account the suggestions and objections submitted by the industry on the rules. Once the committee files their report, the final State Rules 2019 will be implemented on an immediate basis.
