13 stations in Delhi to be redeveloped

The redevelopment is being taken up under the Amrit Bharat Scheme


As Indian Railways steps up the pace of station infrastrastructure modernisation, reports state that 13 railway stations in Delhi including the stations of New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar, Old Delhi, Delhi Cantt., will be redeveloped under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Railways has identified 1,275 railway stations across the country including the border areas for redevelopment under the Scheme. The various aspects being taken up under this Scheme could open up avenues for PPP projects involving OOH media operators.

The pan-India redevelopment plan will include the makeover of 72 stations in Andhra Pradesh, 49 in Assam, 86 Bihar, 32 in Chattisgarh, 2 in Goa, 87 in Gujarat, 29 in Haryana, 3 in Himachal Pradesh, 57 in Jharkhand, 55 in Karnataka, 34 in Kerala, 80 in Madhya Pradesh, 123 in Maharashtra, 1 each in Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Sikkim, and Nagaland, 57 in Odisha, 30 in Punjab, 82 in Rajasthan, 73 in Tamil Nadu, 39 in Telangana, 4 each in Tripura and J&K, 3 in Puducherry, 149 in Uttar Pradesh, 11 Uttarakhand, and 94 in West Bengal.

Amrit Bharat Station scheme envisages development of stations on a continuous basis with a long-term approach. It involves preparation of Master Plans and their implementation in phases to improve the amenities at the stations like improvement of station access, circulating areas, waiting halls, toilets, lift/escalators as necessary, cleanliness, free Wi-Fi, kiosks for local products through schemes like ‘One Station One Product’, better passenger information systems, Executive Lounges, nominated spaces for business meetings, landscaping etc. keeping in view the necessity at each station.

The scheme also envisages improvement of building, integrating the station with both sides of the city, multimodal integration, amenities for divyangjans, sustainable and environment friendly solutions, provision of ballastless tracks, ‘Roof Plazas’ as per necessity, phasing and feasibility and creation of city centres at the station in the long term.
