Enforcement of the Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Advertisement Rules, 2019 awaited

It’s more than a year since the 1-year ban on outdoor advertising in the city of Bengaluru was enforced by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The OOH media owns who have borne the brunt of the ban are waiting expectantly for the draft Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Advertisement Rules, 2019 to be notified. The draft rules were issued by the Urban Development Department (UDD) of Karnataka Government on July 15 with the objective of obtaining feedback on the same within 15 days.

The UDD notification stated: “The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike is also hereby given notice of fifteen days as required under sub-section (5) of section 427 of the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976 (Karnataka Act 14 of 1977) as to show cause why the following rules shall not be made.”

The draft rules notification also stated that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Advertisement Bye-laws 2006 or any other Bye-laws made on its behalf are not adequate.

It is not clear whether the feedback provided to the government will be incorporated partially or in toto in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Advertisement Rules, 2019.
