Domestic passenger volume reaches 129.23 million in September 2021, as compared to 86.01 million in the corresponding month of 2020

Air passenger traffic volume in India has seen a significant increase from a total of 114.69 million in July 2021 to 146.85 million in September 2021, which is a 28% increase in the 3-month period.

While domestic passenger traffic volume increased from 102.63 million in July 2021 to 129.23 million in September 2021, international traffic saw gradual growth from 12.06 million in July 2021 to 17.62 million in September 2021. Year on year, the international passenger traffic in India increased from 11.12 million in September 2020, to 17.62 million in September 2021.

On the international front, the prospects are brightening. Paul Griffiths, the chief executive of Dubai Airports was quoted in a media report as saying the air travel industry is “not quite out of the woods” — but the future could be brighter than the last 20 months.

Overall, the growing airport traffic passenger volume augurs well for Indian airport media business that has been severely impacted by the pandemic and associated travel restrictions.
