Mumbai outdoor policy on the anvil; MHOA working closely with BMC
The first draft of the policy is expected to be out by end-January; MHOA is also advocating the introduction of digital formats in the city, at least in select areas to begin with
The first draft of Mumbai Outdoor Advertising Policy, being worked upon by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) with Mumbai Hoarding Owners’ Association (MHOA), is expected to be unveiled toward the end of this month. MHOA has been sharing the industry’s viewpoints on policy matters which are serving as inputs for the civic body that is framing what would be a uniform advertising policy for the industry in Mumbai.
Sharing his expectations from the policy, Khalid, President of MHOA, told Media4Growth: “Our aim is to have a uniform policy that is a win-win for both media owners and the corporation and adhered to by the entire media owning fraternity.”
MHOA has a been strong votary of DOOH formats. “We are hoping to get the provision for digital formats to be installed. The corporation holds the view that visually attractive formats in the outdoor can cause accidents. However, there are no studies as yet prove that view. We suggested that a few units may be put up to begin with at places like Chowpatty and Marine Drive and in due course the formats may be introduced in other places depending on the outcomes.”
