The action followed the Model Code of Conduct coming into effect

Even as the Model Code of Conduct came into the effect following the announcement of General Elections, the Mangaluru City Corporation swooped down on flexes, banners, bunting and all kinds of publicity materials displayed in the city that had political, religious or any non-commercial content. “By around midnight after the Model Code of Conduct came into effect we removed publicity materials in most part of the city,” as shared by a Mangaluru City Corporation official.

According to the Deputy Commissioner, S. Sasikanth Senthil, the Election Commission observes if there is any display of publicity material authorised with the local body, then it would consider to be the expenditure of the concerned candidates. It has been also noticed that on Monday the teams removed publicity material on the outskirts of the cities - Kudupu, Kannur and Faisal Nagar. On Tuesday, they removed a few flex banners and other publicity material in Shakti Nagar, Ashok Nagar and Attavar.
