Punjab OOH set for political campaign splash
The Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab has recommended the use of eco -friendly material for promotions, though PVC continues to be the choice due to cost and availability issues
Punjab, where the 2019 Indian general election is scheduled to happen on 19th May, is likely to see a splash of political campaigns in the coming week by all the major political parties, including BJP, Congress and AAP. It is reliably learnt that the sites have been finalized by each party where the campaign is expected to start about 2-3 days from now. The maximum number of sites available in the entire state have been occupied by these three parties and the campaign is expected to run for 45 days, where both party promotions and candidate promotions will occupy space.
In line with the Election Commission of India, the Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab, S Karuna Raju, has also issued a recommendation to use eco-friendly materials for party promotions. Instead of plastic, he suggested the use of compostable bags, natural fabrics, recycled paper and other such materials for the promotions.
However, when Media4Growth probed into the matter, it was learnt that no media was being printed on green material and that the entire campaign would run on PVC due to cost factor and the unavailability of green material.
