KMC launches city wide drive for media structure safety
Media owners fully back the Kolkata municipal body’s initiative to ensure structural stability
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has launched a drive to ensure the stability of outdoor advertising structures installed on the roadsides in the city. This has been initiated in the aftermath of the Majerhat bridge collapse some time ago. Also, the publicity space on foot overbridges (FOBs) are being removed as those formats had been allotted on lease. A report on this is being prepared by a team of chartered engineers.
The OOH industry is extending its support to the urban local body keeping in view the safety considerations.
The KMC has also sought a report from the city traffic police on outdoor advertising structures in the city, and the Kolkata Police has been informed that only advertising structures that comply with the safety rules should be allowed on the roadside.
