Even as the Greater Chennai Corporation is finding ways to bridge major revenue shortfalls, internal discussions are reportedly underway to explore reviving outdoor advertising in the city of Chennai, where large formats are banned for several years now. It was recently reported in a daily that the corporation is planning to generate Rs 50 crore annually from outdoor advertising. However, when Media4Growth approached A Umapathy, Deputy Director / Public Relation Officer, Greater Chennai Corporation on the matter, he said: “Nothing has been finalised as of now in terms of locations and on the issue of hoardings revival as the matter is still in the court”.

Apparently, the corporation had identified some 1,100 locations for a variety of formats such BQS, Hoardings, Toilet Blocks and etc. however no tender was floated for the same.

The High Court had cleared a single window system to allow advertising on private buildings in the city but the civic authority has not initiated that too, said one OOH industry professional.
