Ajinkya is indeed one of India’s most formidable middle-order batsmen who has represented India with great distinction at the international  levels. He came into the national cricket team reckoning after scoring consistently for Mumbai team. Ajinkya first broke into the Indian team by making his debut in a T20i match against England in August 2011. Two years later, in 2013 Ajinkya made his Test debut against Australia, and there was no looking back since.

Ajinkya has this enviable record of having scored 9 of his 12 Test hundreds on foreign soil, that too in the more challenging playing conditions in England, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.

Ajinkya has captained the Indian team and has a record of never having lost a match as a captain. Under his leadership, India won the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia where the team staged a remarkable comeback after losing the opening Test to defeat a very strong Australian side

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) too Ajinkya has been a top performer, having represented Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Rising Pune Supergiant, Delhi Capitals in the past. Currently he represents Kolkata Knight Riders.

In 2016, Ajinkya received the Arjuna Award for his stellar contributing to the sport of cricket in India.
