Indian Railways evaluating non-fare revenue generation projects
Under the Swiss Challenge project, the railway had invited innovative OOH advertising project to boost non-fare revenue generation
Indian Railways has started evaluating the projects invited under the Swiss Challenge that was launched some time ago to achieve the ministry’s non-fare revenue target of Rs 14,000 crore in 2017-18. The authority had asked individuals and bodies to submit unique and innovative plans with regard to boosting Railway non-fare revenues. As per the authority, various start-ups and individuals have participated in large numbers in the Challenge.
The projects are being evaluated now for viability and revenue generation potentials, and which they will be open for bids. These contracts will be given for the duration of 5 years.
Indian Railways’ non-fare revenue saw a 72% increase to Rs 10,181 crore in 2016-17, from Rs 5,928 crore during 2015-16. Railways expect incremental revenue of Rs 34,350 crore from non-fare revenue over the next 10 years. This includes Rs 3,750 crore from OOH advertising.
