HC firm on complete elimination of illegal hoardings in Bengaluru

A Division Bench of the Karnataka High Court was informed by the Bengaluru city police in a hearing on August 10 that criminal cases are being lodged against those putting up illegal hoardings. The inputs are being obtained from surveillance cameras and patrolling/beat policemen. 

The Bench directed the police to complete the investigation into the cases (some 223) by August 14 and reports based on the investigations are to be filed before the jurisdictional magistrates before August 14.

BBMP informed the Bench that 95% of the illegal banners and flexes had already been removed and that the civic body would be issuing public notices in print media asking individuals, institutions, and firms to voluntarily remove hoardings, banners, posters, etc. that were put up illegally at various public places within 48 hours.

The Bench insisted that it expects “zero” illegal hoardings, banners, and posters in public places by the next date of hearing, August 14.
