Continental XTRA celebrates Tamil New Year with culturally rooted OOH across Chennai
The campaign is executed by Platinum Outdoor
Continental XTRA (CCL) marked Tamil New Year (Puthandu) with a city-wide OOH campaign in Chennai, blending festive sentiment with strong brand presence across high-impact formats.
Built around the greeting “Puthandu Nalvazhthukkal” (புத்தாண்டு நல்வாழ்த்துக்கள்), the campaign uses traditional motifs, vibrant festive colours, and cultural symbolism to connect with local audiences during a moment of significance. At the same time, the creative retains the bold identity of XTRA Strong, ensuring the product remains central to the communication rather than secondary to the occasion.

Executed by Platinum Outdoor, the campaign spans a mix of transit and street-level formats, including railway stations, bus shelters, and key arterial routes across the city. The use of digital cube installations within station environments stands out—offering multi-directional visibility and ensuring the message is seen repeatedly by moving commuters. Large-format billboards and bus shelter panels further extend the campaign into everyday travel routes, reinforcing recall through consistent exposure.

What makes the campaign effective is its ability to integrate the brand into a lived cultural moment. Instead of treating Tamil New Year as a superficial festive hook, Continental XTRA aligns itself with everyday consumption occasions during the celebration, making the brand feel both relevant and familiar.
