As India’s Digital Out-of-Home ecosystem enters a new phase of growth, technology is increasingly becoming the driving force behind how brands engage with consumers in public spaces. From AI-powered content delivery to connected display ecosystems, the future of DOOH is expected to be more intelligent, measurable and immersive than ever before.

According to Manish Gundigara, Vertical Head – PSU, Infrastructure & DOOH, LG Electronics Information Display Business, the industry is currently at a significant inflection point.

“India’s Digital Out-of-Home market is ushering in a transformative phase, driven by rapid urbanisation, smart city initiatives, premium retail environments, airports, transit hubs and the growing demand for dynamic consumer engagement,” he says.

“At LG, we believe the future of outdoor advertising lies in intelligent, connected display ecosystems that can deliver impactful visual experiences while simultaneously enabling operational efficiency.”

Technology as the Growth Catalyst

For LG, technology will be the biggest enabler of the next wave of DOOH growth.

“High-brightness LED displays, AI-powered content optimisation, cloud-based management platforms, seamless connectivity and real-time audience engagement capabilities will allow brands to deliver contextual, targeted and measurable campaigns,” explains Manish.

He believes that display infrastructure will increasingly become a strategic asset for media owners and advertisers seeking to maximise audience engagement and campaign effectiveness.

“Our role is to provide reliable, energy-efficient and future-ready display infrastructure that empowers media owners and advertisers to create more meaningful consumer experiences.”

Reimagining Consumer Experiences Through Innovation

As consumer expectations evolve, innovation in display technologies is becoming critical to creating differentiated experiences.

LG’s portfolio today includes high-brightness outdoor LED displays, fine pixel pitch LED solutions, UltraStretch displays for unique formats and weatherproof commercial displays designed for continuous operation.

The company also offers cloud-based platforms such as LG SuperSign CMS and LG ConnectedCare, enabling seamless content management and remote monitoring capabilities.

“These innovations enable media owners to deliver immersive and high-impact campaigns while simplifying deployment, reducing maintenance requirements and improving return on investment,” says Manish.

According to him, the focus is increasingly shifting from merely displaying content to creating integrated visual ecosystems that are efficient, scalable and intelligent.

AI and Data Will Define the Future of DOOH

One of the biggest shifts underway is the growing importance of accountability and measurement.

“The future of DOOH is not just digital; it is intelligent and data driven,” Manish notes.

He believes artificial intelligence and analytics will fundamentally transform how campaigns are planned, delivered and measured.

“AI is enabling advertisers to optimise content based on location, audience behaviour, time of day and environmental conditions. Cloud-based content management systems powered by Generative AI can also allow campaigns to be created and distributed across multiple locations almost instantly.”

The integration of AI and smart display technologies, he adds, will lead to dynamic content delivery, improved campaign relevance, actionable insights and significantly greater accountability.

“As DOOH becomes increasingly connected with retail media, mobile engagement and omnichannel marketing, intelligent display infrastructure will become the backbone of future advertising networks.”

Supporting the Industry’s Digital Transition

While opportunities are significant, media owners also face several challenges in their digital transformation journeys.

“The biggest opportunity lies in the growing demand for premium digital advertising experiences across transportation, retail, hospitality, smart cities and commercial developments,” says Manish.

However, challenges such as infrastructure investments, scalability, energy consumption and long-term maintenance remain key considerations.

“Technology partners therefore have an important role to play in reducing complexity and ensuring long-term business value.”

LG is addressing these challenges through energy-efficient technologies, dependable commercial-grade display solutions, remote monitoring capabilities and nationwide service support.

“We work closely with system integrators and media partners to deliver end-to-end display solutions that reduce total cost of ownership while ensuring long-term reliability.”

The Next Five Years

Looking ahead, Manish expects the industry to witness wider adoption of AI-driven content creation, accelerated growth in programmatic DOOH and deeper integration between physical displays and mobile engagement.

“We also foresee significant growth in retail media networks, increased deployment of smart displays across public infrastructure and a greater emphasis on sustainable, energy-efficient display technologies.”

For LG, the future of displays extends far beyond communication.

“We envision displays evolving into intelligent digital platforms that connect brands with consumers through real-time, contextual and immersive experiences. By continuously investing in innovation, AI-enabled solutions and sustainable technologies, LG remains committed to supporting the next generation of digital transformation in the OOH industry.”

As digital and physical worlds continue to converge, companies such as LG are positioning themselves not merely as display providers, but as technology partners helping shape the future of connected consumer experiences.
