Industry leaders present key recommendations at Karnataka Talks OOH! conference

The first Karnataka Talks OOH! conference, held in Bangalore on October 9, featured an open house brainstorming session wherein the participants formed discussion groups and deliberated upon the critical issues that underpin OOH business in Bangalore and rest of Karnataka.

Each group came up with its own set of recommendations that were read out to the audience. The key recommendations were as follows:

  • Take a pledge not to give business to illegal media owners
  • Create a website for all legally permitted hoardings in Bangalore
  • Work towards identification and removal of all illegal hoardings by the local authority
  • Media owners should sign a Code of Ethics on use of legal media when they become a part of Indian Outdoor Advertising Association (IOAA)
  • Follow the IOAA SOP in full
  • Encourage self-regulation by media owners
  • Discourage short-term outdoor campaigns
  • Re-invest in OOH infrastructure maintenance and manpower
  • Empower IOAA to handle critical industry issues including credit control
  • Make the outdoor structures more flex-friendly and visually appealing
  • Create a Bangalore outdoor advertising association
  • Promote beautification of city by arriving at a balance between green space and hoarding space
  • Promote use of eco-friendly, bio-degradable materials
  • As OOH business expands into the Tier 2 & 3 cities, the wrong practices followed in the larger markets should not be repeated in those emerging markets
  • Build new ecosytems in the in new corridors around the city of Bangalore with new formats that will help break the clutter
  • Utilise the transit network ecosystem more effectively through digital OOH complemented with relevant content. Real time content on this network will help drive up engagement in Tier 2 and 3 cities
