Kolhapur civic body swoops down on unauthorised media in the city
Outmoded advertising policy cited as a key reason for mushrooming of unauthorised media in Kolhapur
The Kolhapur municipal body has swooped down on unathorised media in the city and in doing so has removed over 285 hoardings and billboards from the Rajarampuri divisional ward office area and some in the Shahupuri, Bagal Market and M J Market areas. Also, around 12 illegal hoardings and over 130 digital boards have been removed from various places in the city such as Gangavesh, Papachi Tickti, Lonar Chowk, Maner Masjid, Toraskar Chowk and Budhwar Talim.
A local media owner told Media4Growth, “There has been continuous crack down on illegal sites that keep cropping in the city. However, the prime reason behind the mushrooming of illegal sites is that absence of legal tendering. The authority is still following the old outdoor advertising policy and does not introduce new tenders and as a result some of the vendors install sites without permission”.
