Yoshi breaks out into Sydney streets for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
The campaign is executed for Universal pictures in partnership with JCDecaux Australia and EssenceMediacom
Sydney’s CBD saw a playful disruption as Yoshi eggs began “hatching” across the city, turning everyday streets into immersive moments of anticipation for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Executed by JCDecaux in partnership with Universal Pictures and EssenceMediacom, the campaign features life-sized 3D special build installations of Yoshi eggs, cracked open mid-hatch, revealing the iconic character inside. Placed within high-footfall urban environments, the installations transform static outdoor into an interactive visual spectacle, inviting passersby to pause, engage, and share.
Timed around the Easter period, the creative draws a clever parallel between the seasonal motif of eggs and a key moment from the film. By bringing Yoshi’s hatching moment into the physical world, the campaign blurs the line between cinematic storytelling and real-world experience, making the familiar feel unexpected.
The execution leans into the strength of OOH as a medium for scale and surprise. The installations are not just seen, they are encountered. Positioned along busy pedestrian corridors, they create moments of interruption in routine, turning commutes into shareable experiences and amplifying reach organically through social media.
