Uber backs London’s night-shift workforce with targeted OOH campaign
Timed around the end of daylight saving time, Uber used projections, digital screens and mobile digital billboards across London and Manchester to reach night-shift workers with a practical offer for their journey home.
While much of London gained an extra hour of sleep when the clocks went back, millions of night-shift workers spent that hour on the job. Uber turned this moment into an opportunity to recognise an often-overlooked audience with a campaign offering night workers up to £10 off rides home or post-shift food.
Built around the message “While London sleeps, you keep it going”, the campaign acknowledged the people working through the night to keep the city running. The communication appeared across prominent outdoor locations, including large-format digital screens and projections, with the campaign code NIGHTSHIFT giving eligible workers access to the offer.
The media strategy extended across London and Manchester, using projections, digital screens and mobile digital vans to reach audiences during the night hours when the message was most relevant. Rather than relying on broad daytime visibility, the campaign aligned its timing and locations with the routines of its intended audience.
The creative also made the offer easy to understand: a direct acknowledgement of night-shift workers, followed by a tangible benefit for their late-night commute or post-shift meal. By connecting the campaign to the extra hour created by the clock change, Uber gave the message a timely cultural hook while bringing attention to a workforce whose schedules often go unnoticed.
With its night-time placements and audience-specific incentive, the campaign demonstrates how OOH can use context, timing and location to make brand communication more relevant to the people it intends to reach.
