IIT Delhi escalates station branding issue to Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs
IIT-D has requested the ministry to permit either use of IIT Delhi name or that of the coaching centre on the Metro station signage
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has approached the Union Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs to intervene in the matter regarding semi-naming of the DMRC station next to IIT. The station was branded as FIITJEE IIT. IIT Delhi had moved the High Court for the cessation of the station branding on the plea that the station branding was creating a wrong impression of FIITJEE being associated with IIT Delhi. The Court first asked for a disclaimer to be put up at the site, and later there were issues relating to the size of the disclaimer, etc.
IIT Delhi has now written to the Ministry of Housing & Urban affairs requesting that either IIT Delhi i.e. the name of the station or FIIT JEE i.e. name of the brand which opted for the branding should be put up on the signage since displaying both names together sends out an impression of a collaboration between the institute and the coaching centre. The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs is the administrative ministry for DMRC.
