Air passenger volume growing month-on-month in India
Govt plans to step up regional connectivity
Total air passenger traffic in India, an aggregate of domestic and international passenger movement at Indian airports as tracked by the Airport Authority of India (AAI), has made a steady northbound progress from 17.66 million in February 2022, to 24.43 million in March, a marginally lower 24.34 million in April, followed by a jump to 26.85 million in May, as per data released on the Airport Authority of India (AAI) website.
With most curbs on international travel lifted, and with the international air sector opening up, the passenger volume in this segment has increased appreciably from 2.38 million in February to 4.1 million in May.
Likewise, domestic air traffic has gone up from 15.28 million in February to 22.75 million in May.
Meanwhile, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia told media recently that ramping up regional connectivity is the new focus area for the government. Plans are afoot to promote regional airlines.
Leisure travel is seeing a sharp uptrend, which is also contributing to the air passenger traffic growth.
