Bhubaneshwar MC bringing down rooftop sites in city
The drive is aimed at rooting out illegal media, as also to enhance the city aesthetics ahead of the 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup Championship that will be organised in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneshwar Municipal Corporation has initiated action to bring down rooftop advertising sites that were cited as unauthorised in April this year. As per reports, the civic body has already uninstalled 13 sites from the city’s North Zone. In an exclusive conversation with Media4Growth, Srimanta Mishra, Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), BMC said, “Primarily this is a precautionary measure to safeguard the citizens of the city as due to extreme weather such as cyclone there is a risk of the heavy structures falling onto the road. And secondly, this step is being taken to maintain the city’s aesthetics; they spoil the skyline of the city”.
When asked if the media owners in the city were informed about the move, Mishra clearly stated that rooftops were declared illegal in this April therefore there was no need for any fresh communication on the matter.
The civic body has targeted the north zone to start this drive considering the 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup Championship is scheduled to be organised in that part of the city.
