Grogu takes over Sankofa Square fountains in immersive OOH activation

In a creative blend of entertainment marketing and experiential out-of-home advertising, Grogu appeared to “use the Force” to take over the fountains at Toronto’s Sankofa Square as part of a promotional activation for The Mandalorian & Grogu. 

The interactive stunt transformed the public space into a live Star Wars-inspired experience, with synchronized fountain movements appearing to respond to Grogu’s actions displayed on the massive digital screen overlooking the square. The illusion created a cinematic moment in real-world space, drawing the attention of pedestrians and fans gathered at one of Toronto’s busiest public destinations. 

The activation was executed through a collaboration between OMG23, The Walt Disney Company, Branded Cities, and Sankofa Square, turning digital OOH into a fully immersive public engagement experience ahead of the film’s release. 

Rather than relying solely on static promotion, the campaign used environmental interaction and real-time spectacle to extend the storytelling of the Star Wars universe into the physical world. By integrating the surrounding fountain infrastructure with the screen content, the execution blurred the line between digital media, live activation, and entertainment. 

Located in downtown Toronto, Sankofa Square provided a high-visibility urban backdrop for the campaign, allowing the activation to naturally generate crowd attention, social media sharing, and organic public engagement.
