Kerala OOH once again in line of fire on flex issue
The flex printing industry in the state has decided to pro-actively promote recycling of PVC banners to make useful products from it. The state has more than 1,500 flex printing units
The Kerala OOH industry is once again falling in the line of fire of the government and National Green Tribunal (NGT). Three years ago, the state government had ordered a ban on use of plastics including use of flex material for advertising and publicity, but for want of an alternative to PVC flex material for advertising, the ban was not enforced. Now, as per research findings it is found that the PVC flex can be replaced by a more eco-friendly PE (polyethylene) material.
A Times of India report said an all-party meeting was scheduled in the state to discuss the alternative to flex boards, which is now postponed to May 7. Meanwhile, it is learnt that the printing fraternity in the state has decided to pro-actively promote recycling of PVC banners to make useful products from it. The state has more than 1,500 flex printing units.
