Aldi creates a ‘broomstick parking’ bay for witches and wizards ahead of Halloween
The supermarket chain adds a playful outdoor touch to Halloween shopping with a dedicated parking space for witches and wizards at its York store
Aldi has given its Halloween preparations a playful out-of-home (OOH) twist by opening a dedicated broomstick parking bay at its York store in the UK, offering witches and wizards a place to park their mythical transport while shopping for the spooky season.
The activation features a custom parking sign carrying the message, “Broomstick parking for witches and wizards only,” alongside Aldi’s logo. A broomstick symbol reinforces the idea, while the surrounding setup brings the concept to life with actual broomsticks, pumpkins and Halloween-themed decorations.
Going beyond a conventional parking sign, the execution transforms an everyday retail touchpoint into a seasonal brand experience. The designated bay, complete with a large broomstick graphic painted on the ground, creates a visual that shoppers can notice as they arrive at the store.
The campaign uses Halloween humour to connect with shoppers, turning a familiar part of the shopping journey into a playful moment. By placing the activation directly outside its store, Aldi brings the seasonal theme into the physical retail environment and gives customers a memorable brand interaction before they even enter.
The initiative demonstrates how retail spaces can serve as creative OOH touchpoints, using simple interventions and occasion-led messaging to attract attention and add personality to the shopping experience.
