Universal Overseas has expanded its presence in the industrial printing ecosystem with the introduction of HandTop UV printing systems in North India, marking the company’s entry into the machinery segment after years of operating in the signage and print solutions space. The move is aimed at improving access to premium UV printing technology while strengthening after-sales support infrastructure in the region.

Speaking about the development, Vidhika Gupta, Managing Director, Universal Overseas said the company identified a significant gap in accessibility and service support for premium printing systems in North India.

“For the first time, we have dabbled into the machine industry. The idea was to make HandTop machines more easily accessible in North India,” she said.

According to Vidhika, the market is witnessing a noticeable shift in brand expectations, with advertisers increasingly looking for premium visual output that can stand out in cluttered environments. “The demand has shifted from basic mass printing. Brands now want output that has more traction and helps them stand out,” she said.

The systems are being positioned for applications across outdoor advertising, retail branding, exhibition graphics, wallpapers, vehicle branding, décor surfaces, acrylic printing, fabric applications and rigid media. The company believes UV printing technologies offer greater durability, colour accuracy and creative flexibility compared to conventional solvent-based systems.

Sustainability is another area driving adoption. As environmental concerns surrounding traditional solvent and eco-solvent printing continue to grow, Universal Overseas sees UV technology becoming an increasingly viable alternative. “With UV, the majority of that problem is solved,” Vidhika noted, referring to the environmental impact associated with solvent-based printing systems.

Beyond machinery sales, the company is placing significant emphasis on service infrastructure. Universal Overseas is offering installation, commissioning, operator training, AMC services, preventive maintenance, technical support and spare parts assistance as part of its long-term customer engagement model.

For Vidhika, this after-sales support is what truly differentiates the business. “The machine business is very different. Machines require AMC, constant maintenance and regular support. It becomes a partnership of the machine, not just a transfer of goods,” she said.

Vidhika is particularly bullish on fabric printing, which she believes will become a major opportunity for UV technology in India. “There’s a lot of fabric printing happening all over India. The output you get in UV is a wholly different ballgame,” she said.

With brands demanding higher-quality finishes, greater customisation and more durable visual communication solutions, Universal Overseas is betting on industrial UV printing becoming an increasingly important part of India’s evolving OOH, retail and print production ecosystem.
