The Government of Odisha has issued orders for the removal of hoardings in the state with immediate effect to forestall any incidents caused by the collapse of any such structure in the event of the super cyclone AMPHAN making a landfall on May 20.

The state government has notified urban local bodies (ULBs) in all districts to ensure that no roadside hoardings are there in their respective areas of jurisdiction.

Steps may also be taken to remove the roadside hoardings in the rural areas.

In the notification, the government has made a reference to the incidents during the FANI cyclone last year whereby hoardings fixed on rooftops and towers were blown away by high velocity wind, causing injury to people.
