Mumbai OOH set for new policies

By M4G Bureau - February 08, 2021

The BMC has also announced new property development under the PPP model as part of the new policy

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has made some new announcements with regard to the Mumbai OOH industry. As per the statement, the new OOH policy announced last year in March is expected to be implemented in their region and is expected to de-congest the skyline of Mumbai. According to existing policy, hoarding boards are erected mainly near road junctions; but given the increase in hoardings at prominent junctions of the city, the civic body will be reviewing the size of the hoardings.

The new policy submitted by the corporation was later submitted to the State Government of Maharashtra for final approval last year, which got extended due to the pandemic.

“The size between two hoardings will be reviewed and the revised scheduled fees will also be implemented,” the BMC stated in its budget statement.

The BMC has also proposed to construct nearly 108 community toilets to cater to the needs of floating public in all the 24 municipal wards. These toilets will be constructed with advanced facilities for women and specially-abled. Some of the toilets will be built using BMC funds, while others will be built under the Public-Private-Partnership model

The budget announcement also made a mention of the exemption of advertising fee to hoarding media owners as the sites were utilised for COVID19 awareness advertisements. Also, an automatic 10% rise in hoarding fees, originally scheduled to be implemented from January 2021, has been reduced to 5% as part of the relief measure
