Kolkata Metro station named after Indian Football Association

By M4G Bureau - October 12, 2020

Along with semi-naming, IFA will have branding rights inside the ‘Indian Football Association Salt Lake Stadium’ metro station

The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) has branded Salt Lake Stadium metro station as the ‘Indian Football Association Salt Lake Stadium’.

This makes Indian Football Association (IFA) the first ever football association in the world to have a metro station named after them. Along with semi-naming, the association will have branding opportunities inside the station.

After the unveiling of the station’s new name, Joydeep Mukherjee, General Secretary, IFA commented, “IFA is always thinking about new ways of promoting its brand. IFA has a huge legacy and it has a big brand that we need to carry forward and we feel that this is a very nice way of highlighting the brand." "I thank KMRC and the government of West Bengal for their support. This is tribute to the legends and all who have taken Indian football to higher echelons. The naming of the station will lead to tremendous excitement among football aficionados. It is a very proud day for football in the country."

“Over the decades, fans mostly have used public transport in Kolkata to travel to the stadiums. The naming of the station to IFA Salt Lake Stadium will present a further sense of oneness to all the fans who have been the real stars of football. I see this as a unique initiative which will further help in connecting the fans at a faster pace to the rapidly changing football landscape in Bengal,” said Subrata Dutta, Senior Vice-President, All India Football Federation.
