The civic body hopes to mop up much more revenues through this initiative in order to achieve its annual advertising revenue target of Rs 25 crore; plans are afoot to strictly regulate rooftop media

The Agra Municipal Corporation has floated a tender for the allotment of rights to install unipoles on the city roads, on the lines of the unipole formats introduced in Delhi. The civic body hopes to mop up more revenues through this initiative in order to achieve its annual advertising revenue target of Rs 25 crore.

The standard dimension of the unipoles would be of 20ft x 10 ft and the units shall be installed 18 ft from the ground.

The corporation has identified 796 locations for the unipoles and they have been grouped in ‘A’ and ‘B’ categories. However as of now, the tender for one zone has been rolled out which includes 74 and 79 media units respectively in A & B categories respectively.

A pre-bid meeting on the tender was conducted where the media owners had raised their particular concerns and queries.

Agra Municipal Corporation will also be floating a tender for installation of rooftop hoardings, the larger goal being to prevent any structurally weak rooftop hoardings from being put on private buildings. A few days back, a destructive dust storm in the northern region had brought down buildings and structurally weak rooftop installations.

Ashish Singh, Executive Engineer -- Traffic, Agra Municipal Corporation said that every effort is being made to ensure that there are no rooftop installations in the city that are structurally weak.
