In-Store Asia 2015 was inaugurated with the lighting off the lamp by Darshan Mehta, CEO, Reliance Brands, along with Jayant Kochar, MD, Go Fish Retail Consulting and Vasant Jante, MD, Thought Shows & Events at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai.

The 9th edition of In-store Asia took off with a great start in Mumbai today, where Darshan Mehta, CEO, Reliance Brands, along with Jayant Kochar, MD, Go Fish Retail Consulting and Vasant Jante, MD, Thought Shows & Events inaugurated the show with the lighting of the lamp.

In his inaugural address, Mehta made a grand impression on the audiences by his presentation and spoke of'The Tank', a unique store concept from Reliance Brands that is making a mark for itself because of its contemporary store looks and design elements. As one of the first eminent speakers lined up for the day, Mehta said, "I have always believed that good art and good fashion are poetry in different mediums. The Tank in many ways endorses that.”

He shared that at The Tank, the store brings the heritage of the neighourhood, a George Willet 1920s classic architecture building, history of Ballard Pier and the container yard together. "We appointed a design firm that had never ever designed a retail space earlier. The freshness of thought is clearly evident. Fashion becomes dramatic when the context is also brought to life,” Darshan explained.  The Tank has been made using 15 tonnes of raw steel, 1000 square feet of railway sleepers, a pile of discarded and over-burnt third class bricks, in a 3000 square feet store. "We learnt how grunge can be made into modern chic,” Mehta said.

As the Conference Director for In-Store Asia 2015, Jayant Kochar began his welcome address by pointing out that that cheap, convenient, multiple choices and easy to compare products are the key advantages for e-tailers.

"How you build your store is more important than how many you build. Two decades of modern retail has seen everything from malls, mechandise, marketing to manpower, but a lot of it is just mediocre. We are in the sea of sameness, where nothing is outstanding. Branding can fetch you more, where effective yet cost-friendly communication such as physical installation can make a difference. Unless you stand for something great, nobody is going to take notice of you. The personality and attitude can make you winner,” Jayant Kochar said while concluding his address.
