Vodafone regales pilgrims during Rath Yatra in Puri

By Nabamita Chatterjee - July 15, 2014

The telecom major organised various entertainment and welfare activities to engage with lakhs of people congregated for the Rath Yatra

Vodafone India, one of India's leading telecommunications service providers, initiated a host of customer connect activities in the outdoor as a part of the weeklong celebrations to mark the annual Rath Yatra in Puri.

As lakhs of pilgrims including senior citizens, women, children of all age, visited the iconic Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri during the Rath Yatra, considering the sheer magnitude of the human gathering and keeping in mind the sultry weather that Puri experiences during this period, Vodafone embarked on a'Happy to Help' campaign for the welfare of the pilgrims. To beat the unbearable heat, Vodafone lined-up 100 umbrellas at Grand Road/Badadanda under which the pilgrims could take some rest. Vodafone also arranged for a water sprinkler truck from which water was sprinkled on pilgrims to bring relief to them from the sweltering heat.

In addition, Vodafone organised various fun activities to keep the visitors and residents entertained. An eye-catching sand-art innovation sponsored by Vodafone on the Puri Beach became the centre of attraction for all. A mobile photo-option zone was created by the sand artists to complement the innovation. On-lookers got an opportunity to get their pictures clicked with the sand-art serving as the background. Later these photographs were made available on the Vodafone'Rath Yatra' Facebook page. Anyone buying the Rs 199 mobile internet recharge voucher (available with the promoters) was given a hard copy of the photograph instantly and they were also made eligible for a lucky draw contest. To add music to the atmosphere, the brand also arranged for two groups of drummers moving around the sea of pilgrims wearing Vodafone branded outfits, to enchant and entertain them through their rhythmic beats.

Abdhesh Singh, Business Head - Odisha, Vodafone India while sharing his thoughts on the initiative taken for Rath Yatra 2014 said, "At Vodafone, we are constantly looking for innovative ways and means to engage with and win the hearts of our customers. Being an occasion that brings one of the largest human congregations in the country, we feel the Rath Yatra is a perfect platform to reach out to people, demonstrate that we care and showcase the various products and services that Vodafone brings to the table to keep them connected and help them get more out of their mobile phones. We invited the residents of Odisha to visit our facilities at the Rath Yatra 2014 in Puri and experience how Vodafone's offerings can enhance their lives.”
