Signpost India takes Public Bicycle Sharing Service to Karnataka

By M4G Bureau - April 04, 2019

The project has been awarded under the Public Private Partnership model by the Davanagere Smart City Limited for 10 years

Signpost IndiaSignpost India has increased the footprint of its first and last mile connectivity driven Public Bicycle Sharing Service – Coo Rides by entering Davanagere smart city in Karnataka. The project was awarded to Signpost India Pvt Ltd. under the Public Private Partnership model by the Davanagere Smart City Limited – Govt. of Karnataka for a operational concession period of 10 years

This would be the third city after Thane in Maharashtra, Naya Raipur in Chhattisgarh and the first city in India to enable electric bicycle along with self-cycling ones, on sharing basis using the Coo Rides on mobile phone app.

“We are targeting to achieve at least 10000 rides a month with the existing fleet strength of 200 bicycles, with network of 20 docking stations in this Southern city. We expect close to 10000 users to sign-up as members and contribute to lower carbon emission as responsible citizens,” said Shripad Ashtekar, Managing Director, Signpost India.

The project to be operational by August, is enabled by ParXsys MoBliT Systems – the mobility technology arm of Signpost India using patented technology developed inhouse including hardware, software and mechanical design and development. The system is the World’s first hybrid docking technology, that enables registered users to automatically get bicycles issued from docking stations and return it at any other docking station within the network easily located from the mobile app. Further in between the rides, users can temporarily lock the bicycle at any location – all controlled using the Coo Rides.

It will offset about 36000 kgs of CO2 emissions per annum, as 10 bicycles will negate the pollution caused by 1 scooter/motorcycle every year and 5 electric bicycles will deliver the same outcome annually.

“Our vision is to build an ecosystem of micro mobility infrastructure catering to commute needs up to 5 km within urban geographies on a subscription basis. A multi modal platform that provides bicycles, electric bicycles, electric scooters and shared rides in electric auto rickshaws – all available to opt from our mobile application – COO Rides to users,” said Syed Haseeb Arfath Founder & Director, ParXsys MoBliT Systems Pvt Ltd.

In India, commute distance of 0-5 km is not serviced by mass transport system, we bring about the experience of over a decade in enabling India centric technology to realize this dream for us and for our users, Syed said.

Signpost intends to demonstrate how micro mobility can be a successful business even in non-metro cities of the country by essentially providing a much needed service to enable connectivity within cities.
