RED FM's tribute to Sachin in Kolkata

By Nabamita Chatterjee - November 23, 2013

The brand unveiled a statue of the master blaster in the city as part of its various activations meant to strike a chord with the audience and joining them in paying their tribute to Sachin.

RED FM, the popular radio station, recently unveiled a life size statue of Sachin Tendulkar at City Centre Salt Lake as a tribute to the master blaster to mark the joy of'Sachin-200 not out'! The statue will stand tall as a reminder of the immense love and passion Kolkata has for cricket and Sachin Tendulkar.  Bengal cricketer Joyjeet Basu, world's no.4 Olympian shooter & Arjuna Awardee Joydeep Karmakar as well as Tollywood celebrities like Nusrat, Soham, Suman and Rahul graced the unveiling.

With Sachin being an icon and role model for every Indian, RED FM Kolkata also went on a non-stop Sachin based programming spree for 200 hours, 8.5 days, day and night. Listeners from all walks of life came forward to pour out their respect for Sachin in their own way. A salon offered to give away free'Sachin styled' haircuts, while restaurants joined RED FM with special dishes. This brand initiative was taken up by RED FM in 12 cities, simultaneously.

Commenting on this initiative, Nisha Narayanan, COO, 93.5 Red FM said, "Sachin has given us enough reasons to celebrate throughout his astonishing career, and with this initiative, Red FM celebrated and will remember his remarkable journey as a cricketer.”

Jimmy Tangree, Station Head, Red FM, said, "We wanted to do this activation at a place where the entire city can come and salute Sachin, thus we selected City Centre Salt Lake where the crowd response has always been very good. The statue will be there for three months and then will be positioned at City Centre II New Town for another three months and post to that it will be permanently installed at our reception area in Kolkata office. We completed the whole work within four days starting from making the statue to get the back-end ready and the installation. It is for the first time that such a statue unveiling initiative has been taken by a radio station inside a mall. Our aim is to make us'visibly-audible' and not just audible and it is important for the crowd to feel that madness not only on-air but on-ground.  Whenever we do any activation we make it a point to consider the level of engagement. Here we are installing this statue in such a touch point where any one can come and pay his/her salute to Sachin. On the very first day we got a rolling crowd of 1200 to 1500 people.”
