The State Government rules will be applicable to outdoor advertising

BBMP OutdoorThe newly appointed Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner B.H. Anil Kumar has categorically stated that there is no conflict in the provisions of the BBMP Outdoor Signage and Public Messaging Policy 2018 and the Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Advertisement Rules 2019 presented by the Urban Development Department of the state government. In a recent meeting held with the Bengaluru media owners body, the BBMP Commissioner has apparently said that the BBMP Outdoor Signage and Public Messaging Policy 2018 i.e. deemed approved will be applicable for the soft self and shop signages, whereas the State Government rules will be applicable in the case of outdoor advertising. He has also hinted that large format advertising could once again be in business.

Anil Kumar was earlier the Additional Chief Secretary of Urban Development Department (UDD) where he was abreast of the advertising policy matters, and that is helping him in arriving at a decision with regard to outdoor advertising in the city, says one industry leader.

The BBMP Commissioner is currently taking into account the feedbacks received on the policies and if all goes well, a final decision on large format advertising within the BBMP jurisdiction will be taken in the next few weeks.
