Mangaluru City Corporation determined to root out illegal outdoor displays

Plans afoot to promote biodegradable media for outdoor advertising and publicity in the city

MangaluruUnauthorised and illegal hoardings have come up in different parts of the Mangaluru city in the current festive season, although the local urban body has enforced a ban on the use of PVC flex for advertising ad publicity. The hoardings and other displays have been mainly put up by associations, individual brands and others. It is learnt that the Mangaluru City Corporation is launching a drive to root out those displays, even as it plans to promote the use of biodegradable media for outdoor advertising and publicity.

In conversation with Media4Growth, Madhu Manohar, Environment Engineer in the corporation, shared, “We are identifying hoardings plastered with flex and we will remove them. Also, we are calling the printing firms and advertising companies involved in installing them to educate them about biodegradable material”.

The corporation has also planned to penalise vendors involved in this with hefty fines, said s Madhu.

The corporation has plans to promote cotton fabric material for outdoor promotions and communications and will try to convenience political parties and corporates to use the same for their promotions. The corporation will launch a long-term drive to control flex usage.
