Karnataka HC hearing on hoardings issue coming up

By M4G Bureau - August 08, 2018

BBMP council apparently seeking time to bring in new ad policy on the lines of Delhi Advertisement Policy

The Karnataka High Court, having issued a directive last week for removal of flexes and banners in the city of Bengaluru, will have a hearing on the issue today. The Court has told Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to finalise its proposed new advertisement policy 2017 and submit it to the government for approval.

The BBMP Council which initially called for a ban on all forms of outdoor advertising in the city (skywalk media and bqs media being exempted) for one year, then decided to make a plea to the Court for more time to draft a new advertisement policy for the city. Currently, the city’s outdoor advertisements are governed by advertisement bye-laws 2006.

BBMP has apparently not renewed the licenses of any hoarding in the city over the last one year, and that makes all existing hoardings unauthorised. The plan is to usher in an ad policy on the lines of Delhi Advertisement Policy.
